When a software company releases a new update for its existing products it consumes resources for both the software company and for the customers. If the product is built upon a client/server architecture the complexity of the update is increased. The customer may not have an employee able to perform the update. If so, the software company needs to dispatch someone to perform the update. The system described in this thesis tries to solve some of the problems when updating 2-tier applications and at the same time introduce licensing into the system. The system is well suited for software companies with known customers. The focus of this thesis is to investigate how to automatically update a client/server application which is based on components.
