Examination of the Thermal Decomposition of Chrysotile

Project on Thermal Decomposition of Chrysotile. The splitting of pure chrysotile from Thetford, Quebec warmed up at constant temperature in air from 200-1000°C for 4 to 720 hrs has been investigated by making use of X-ray diffraction and optical microscopy methods. No morphological modifications had been observed optically below 450ºC and 24 hours, although X-ray diffraction data advise that chrysotile degrades then recrystallizes below 450°C.

Apoptosis Regulation via the Mitochondrial Pathway: Membrane Response upon Apoptotic Stimuli

The aim of this thesis (Apoptosis Regulation via the Mitochondrial Pathway: Membrane Response upon Apoptotic Stimuli) was the investigation of the mitochondrial response mechanisms upon apoptotic stimuli. The specific objectives were the biophysical characterization of membrane dynamics and the specific roles of

Fluorescence studies of complex systems: organisation of biomolecules

The homo and hetero dimerisation of two spectroscopically different chromophores were studied, namely: 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diazas-indacene (g-BODIPY) and its 5-styryl-derivative (r-BODIPY). Various spectroscopic properties of the r-BODIPY in different common solvents were determined. It was shown that g- and r-BODIPY in the ground state

The ecological significance of sexual reproduction in peat mosses (Sphagnum)

This thesis describes the target selection, cloning, expression, purification, crystallization, structure and biochemical characterization of five essential Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) proteins. The search for drugs against the causal agent of tuberculosis is urgently needed and the targeting of essential genes is necessary
